Parenting is one of the hardest callings God gives us — and even the best parents fall short. In this sermon, we examine 5 essential pillars of godly parenting drawn from Scripture, with God Himself as the perfect (yet gracious) role model. Clarity — Clear permissions, clear prohibitions, clear consequences (Genesis 2:16-17). Learn to distinguish faults/mistakes from willful sin. Correction — Not punishment for its own sake, but training that produces righteousness (Hebrews 12:6-11). Consistency — God's parenting doesn't change with feelings, environment, or the child (Hebrews 12:10; Deuteronomy 6:7). We must stay steady even when we're tired, lazy, or the kids "change the rules." David's inconsistent parenting with some sons led to tragedy — consistency is profitable for our children. Compassion — Mercy when deserved punishment could be given, rooted in deep relationship and understanding our children's frame (Psalm 103:8-14). Rules without relationship breed rebellion. Spend time to know your child — moods, triggers, limits — so compassion is genuine, not laziness. Cooperation — United parents = unbreakable front (Genesis 27; Mark 3:25). No wedges between mom and dad. Also teach honor for other authorities (church, teachers, government) while modeling balanced, critical thinking without bitterness (Hebrews 13:7, 17; Romans 13:7). #GodlyParenting #BiblicalParenting #ChristianFamily #Hebrews12 #ParentingWithGrace #RaiseGodlyChildren #Forgiveness #ConsistencyInParenting
