The local church is a living body — and just like our physical bodies, unity is essential for it to function and grow effectively. When one part causes harm, drags as dead weight, or divides, the whole body suffers and God's work is hindered. In this practical sermon from Acts, we examine 4 common "growing pains" that arise during times of real spiritual growth — and how the early church resolved them to see God's blessing return. These aren't signs of failure; they're evidence of life and multiplication! But they require humility to overcome. Key growing pains covered: Name-Building (Acts 5:1-11) — Ananias & Sapphira lied to gain status without true sacrifice. Pride fuels contention (Prov 13:10). Solution: Cultivate a culture of genuine generosity, not status-seeking. Problem-Building (Acts 6:1) — Complaints about neglected widows during rapid growth. Instead of grumbling, the church enlisted more helpers. See a need? Be part of the biblical solution — God gifts you for it (Rom 12:6-8; 1 Cor 12:18)! Clique-Building (Acts 6:1 & 11:1) — Divisions along racial/cultural lines (Grecians vs. Hebrews, Jews vs. Gentiles). Natural friendships are good, but isolation into "our group" harms the body. Solution: Step out of comfort zones, meet newcomers, and embrace all as one in Christ (Gal 3:28). Division-Building (Acts 15:1-5) — Doctrinal cliques importing unbiblical ideas (e.g., circumcision required for salvation). As the church grows, new believers bring old beliefs. Solution: Test everything against Scripture with humility, hold to apostles' doctrine, and pursue unity of the faith (Eph 4:5, 11-13; 1 Cor 1:10). The common cure for all four: Humility Esteem others better (Phil 2:3-4) Clothe yourself with humility (1 Pet 5:5) Live peaceably with all (Rom 12:18) When humility prevails, name-building stops, problems get solved, cliques dissolve, and divisions heal. The church becomes "one heart and one soul" again — and God moves powerfully! If you're part of a growing church (or want one to be), this message is a vital check-up: Are you contributing to unity or hindering it? Examine your heart today — decide to be part of the solution, not the problem. #churchunity #GrowingPains #ActsSermon #BiblicalChurch #HumilityInChrist #OneBody #SpiritualGrowth #LocalChurch
